dollar days

I had an emotional day today and thought if I made someone else happy it would make me happy. I also  needed exercise, So I took a bunch of loonies (dollar in Canada), and went for a walk around the neighbourhood to leave loonies for someone to find.

I hope I put some smiles on some faces :)

These are some of the places I left my loonies

Rocky Mountain Soap Company Thank you

I enjoyed giving away a dollar a day last year. It was fun to find a place to leave each loonie and wonder how long it would take for someone to find it. I hid a loonie in my coworkers office about 8 months ago and he never found it. He is moving to a new job and tomorrow he said he will find the loonie. It was taped under his keyboard all this time. So Paul if you are reading this you will know where to look. So close but yet so far away.

I still give away loonies when in a good location that merits it. But this January 1st I started a new resolution to send a thank you card everyday. So far so good. Many of my thank you cards have been sent to my friends or family for doing something really nice to me, like for presents, or dinners or for just being so darn fantastic to me. It seems the more thank you cards I send the more things happen to me to be grateful for. Some days I could write way more than the one card.

I just don't send thank yous to friends but to companies, politicians, authors, or stores. If I think of something that I am thankful for and I can send a card I do. I have sent cards to Smarties, Hawkins Cheesies, the Mayor of Calgary, Clive Cussler, Ellis Pecans for example.

Recently I had my birthday and I received an offer for a free bar of homemade soap from the Rocky Mountain Soap Company for a birthday present. So I sent them a thank you for the soap. I really appreciate this bar of soap each year. Then they had an event in the store that if you brought in an old lip gloss they would give you a free lip gloss from their new collection of natural lip glosses. I wrote up a thank you for the lip gloss and went downstairs and mailed it. It was about a half hour later when the receptionist came up to me and said I have a box for you that smells really good. It was a box of soaps and lip glosses and hand lotion from Rocky Mountain Soap. they liked my thank you letter and thought they would send me some more things to try. I was floored. I thought this was the nicest thing. It really made my day.

So on the way home I dropped by Purdy's chocolates and bought some Hedgehogs and the next day mailed them to the shipper at Rocky Mountain Soap Company to thank her for the nice surprise. I hope I made her day.

It is so important to be grateful for everything we have in life regardless how big or little it is. So I challenge anyone that is reading this today to send a thank you card for something or to someone and make their day.

Why do bad things happen to nice people??

"it's time to start living the life you've imagined" Henry James

The other morning a young girl in my office was walking to work and a car pulled up. The man got out and came up to her with a knife and said "give me all your stuff." Meanwhile the woman got out of the car and stood behind my co-worker while the man took her stuff, then the woman padded her down to make sure she didn't have anything of value in her pockets.

Pretty scary stuff seeing that it happened to someone I work with and it was only blocks away from where I live myself.

We were all shocked to hear this in the office. The most important part was that she was okay. You can get stuff back, it's just stuff.

Well I sat at my desk all morning and thought about this and thought what could we do to make my co-worker feel better. she has been pretty upset since and not made it into work. So i thought we should make a collection in the office so she would have money to replace her stolen, purse, wallet, shoes, ipod and re key her apartment. I went around the office and asked people to contribute. Everyone I asked in the office gave from their heart. Everyone gave what they could afford. Even company employees who were visiting from other locations gave something even though they don't know her. I managed to collect $540 so far in a day and a half. Wow. I am so proud of all my coworkers for coming together when it counts to help one of their own out. This is truly giving. it made me feel good to work in a place where people care about each other.

I can't wait to see the look on my co-workers face when she returns to work and we present her with the donations. It won't erase what happened but will add some happiness to her day and if we get a smile from her then it's worth it.

Act of service for the day: pay for the person's coffee behind you in line at the drive through.

"If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves." Thomas Edison

Karma makes the world go around so it's best to be on Karma's good side. I don't know why so many good things happen to me everyday. Is it because I am nice to everyone I meet (well I try to be 98% of the time), or is it because I give away a dollar a day, or the gods like to smile down on me, I really can't say for sure. I do know that whatever you put out you get back. So if you are nice to others, give to others, help others this will all come back to you two fold.
Just this week I was given tickets for the box suite for the Calgary Flames hockey game, and invited to a buffet luncheon at a renown chef school. Nice things like this have been happening to me a lot lately. I am very grateful for all I receive. Though the key is to do nice things for others without expecting anything back.
I like leaving my loonie somewhere when I walk home from work. I try to think about who might find it, someone that really needed an extra loonie or just someone who just finds it and says "hey it's a buck."
Think about what you do everyday, can you be a little nicer, give a little more, offer more help. If you can, do it and see what happens.
Have a fabulous Day!!!!

Act of service for the day: if you have elderly folks in your neighbourhood offer to rake their Autumn leaves for them. (okay Calgary is probably the only place where winter is just around the corner :(

ACDC Book Contest

"Life is like a combination lock; your job is to find the right numbers, in the right order, so you can have anything you want." Brian Tracy

Today I am home sick. I will not be going anywhere except from my bed to my couch. So I am asking whoever is reading this out there to do me a favour. Can someone leave a dollar/loonie somewhere for me today and then let me know the details and let me know how it made you feel or what happened. Please and thanks.

My sister has a BLOG about quilts and books and recipes and other various stuff. She has a contest on right now to win an ACDC book. I have pasted the link to the contest below. Please have a look and enter the contest. She is asking what your favourite ACDC song is, it's that simple.
Act of service for today: hold the door open for the person behind you.

Still Giving away a dollar a day!

"When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change"

To those that have been following my blog I apologize that my laptop of 11 years worked really hard for me for many years but I had to trade her in for a newer version. I appreciate that my last laptop lasted me for so many years.

I may not have been writing in my blog but I have still been giving away a loonie everyday.
Just the other day I was leaving a store I intentionally took a loonie out of my wallet to leave somewhere on the walk home. When I left the store I was juggling many shopping bags in my hands. I inadvertently dropped my purse. I had no idea and I continued walking home. I had gone at least 100 metres when this young man came running towards me from inside the Wendy's restaurant. He said mamm you dropped your purse and started running towards the store I had just left. I then saw another young man run out of the other door of Wendy's and went to pick up my purse and give it back to me. I was very grateful for their help. It made me really have faith in humanity.
I believe that because I was on my way to leaver some money for someone else to find I was spared the loss of my purse. If I had not been ready to give the loonie away maybe the outcome would have been different.

Since I have been giving away my loonies I have had so many good things come my way, free tickets to Aerosmith, free stay in a condo in Kimberley BC, free tickets to a CFL game, many free dinners/lunch, great deal on a weeks rental car, free tickets to the rodeo and chuck wagons during the Calgary Stampede and many many more things. I am very blessed.

Act of Service for the Day: leave some food in the food bank bin at the grocery store.
