Mexico

"Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it into words is all that is necessary."
- Margaret Cousins

Well I know it has been a long time since I wrote in my blog. I went off to Mexico for a few weeks and did not have much computer access while there. I decided that I wouldn't take loonies to Mexico to give away because it is too hard to change coins for another currency. So what use would a dollar be too a local person.I did continue to give away money while I was there. I visited many beautiful Churches and cathedrals where I would always find the donation box and leave some pesos. Also on the street when I would stop and watch a good busker, like the Mexican Lads that sang some fabulous renditions of some Beatles songs. I left some money in the can sitting in front of them. As soon as I did other people walked up and did the same.

In Calgary Alberta where I live there are people all over the city asking passersby for "spare change". Mexico which has a much larger population and a lot more people living in poverty had way less beggars on the street. There were a few but not many. The thing I liked about Mexico was that the poor don't beg but work to get their money. The poor set up little food stands and sell some local delight on the street. People will walk along the streets selling water, chips, candy etc. Even on the subway people come on selling gum, CDs,candy etc. The people were not lazy.

I have to be honest that for the first week after coming back to Canada I didn't give away any loonies. It didn't feel right but I was lazy and out of habit. For the last week and a half I have been leaving my loonies around on the way home from work. Yesterday I had decided that I would leave one in the park on one of the statues but as I entered the park this lady says "Mamm do you have any spare change" yup I said as I handed her my looonie. I think I was meant to give her the loonie that day.
It feels good to be giving again.

Act of service for the day: If you have coupons that you will never use take them to the grocery store and leave them beside the items.

Welcome back I have missed your posts.

I haven't given away any loonies, but I did leave eleven books at the camp ground we were at on the weekend.
